- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this into the dry ingredients and stir gently.
- Fold in the raisins or currants, making sure they are evenly distributed.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times.
- Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle or rectangle and cut into wedges or rounds.
- Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack.
