Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Magical Spiral Cookies
  1. Begin by creaming together 1 cup of unsalted butter and 2 cups of powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy, taking about 3-4 minutes. Next, add in 2 eggs and 2 tablespoons of milk, mixing well until fully combined. Gradually incorporate 4 cups of all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of almond extract until you have a soft dough.
  2. Once your dough is ready, divide it into three portions. Leave one portion plain, color one half with purple gel food coloring until you achieve your desired shade, and then add black gel food coloring to the last portion. Knead each section until the colors are vibrant and consistent.
  3. Flour your work surface lightly and roll out the black and white dough portions into ¼-inch thick rectangles. Once rolled, carefully stack the plain and black layers on top of each other. Use a rolling pin to gently press them together.
  4. Take the purple dough and roll it out into a similar rectangle. Sprinkle it generously with purple sprinkles and roll it up into a log shape.
  5. Position the purple log at one end of the stacked black and white dough, and tightly roll the combination around it.
  6. Wrap the completed cookie log tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for about 1 hour.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the log into ¼-inch rounds with a sharp knife. Arrange the slices on lined baking sheets.
  8. Bake the Magical Spiral Cookies in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until the edges are just set and slightly golden.
