  • 2 tbsp Butter or olive oil for healthier option
  • 2 tbsp Flour can use gluten-free flour
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese or mozzarella/gouda for variation
  • 1 tsp Paprika can use smoked paprika for distinctive flavor
  • 1 tsp Dry Mustard

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, diced onion, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, and pepper.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture into a greased baking dish, pressing it down gently.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes.
  5. While the meatloaf bakes, bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook macaroni until al dente.
  6. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and stir in the flour to form a roux.
  7. Gradually add milk to the roux and whisk until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  8. Stir in paprika, dry mustard, and shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  9. Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce.
  10. Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture over the meatloaf layer in the dish.
  11. Bake for an additional 25 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
