  • 4 large Russet Potatoes thinly sliced
  • 2 cups Heavy Cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup Whole Milk or extra heavy cream
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese mix with mozzarella for variation
Toppings and Seasoning
  • 8 slices Crumbled Bacon optional for vegetarian
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Green Onions or chives
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic fresh preferred
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika smoked for extra flavor
  • 2 tablespoons Butter for greasing dish

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased dish, pour half of the cream sauce over, and top with half of the cheese, bacon, and green onions.
  5. Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes, cream sauce, cheese, bacon, and green onions.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
