Step-by-Step Instructions for Hobo Casserole Ground Beef
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef and brown for 5–7 minutes.
  3. Add 1 chopped medium onion and 2 minced garlic cloves, cooking for another 3–4 minutes until translucent.
  4. Layer thinly sliced potatoes over the beef, seasoning with salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, and 0.5 teaspoon of paprika.
  5. Sprinkle 1.5 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and 0.5 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the potatoes.
  6. Pour 0.5 cup of beef broth or water around the edges and optionally drizzle with 0.25 cup of milk.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 15–20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and potatoes are fork-tender.
  8. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving, optionally garnished with fresh parsley.
