Method
 

Casserole Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a large baking dish with olive oil.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté diced onion and minced garlic for about 3 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet; cook for 5-7 minutes until browned. Season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Mix in cooked white rice and 1 cup of tomato sauce. Cook an additional 2-3 minutes off heat.
  5. Layer half of the chopped cabbage in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Spoon the beef and rice mixture over the cabbage, then add the remaining cabbage on top.
  7. Drizzle remaining tomato sauce over the casserole, cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  8. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.
