Ingredients

For the Casserole
  • 10 slices Frozen Waffles Feel free to swap in fresh waffles if preferred.
  • 2 cups Fresh Blueberries Using frozen blueberries is fine too—just thaw and drain them first.
  • 4 large Eggs Add an extra egg for a firmer texture.
  • 1 cup Milk Almond or coconut milk are great dairy-free alternatives.
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Swap for non-dairy cream if desired.
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract Almond extract can work for a twist on flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Maple Syrup Adjust the amount to suit your taste, or use honey or agave syrup.
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Reduce the amount if you prefer it less sweet.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Feel free to omit if a straightforward flavor is desired.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Essential for enhancing overall flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Butter For greasing the dish; using non-stick spray is an alternative.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • whisk

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s hot enough to bake the casserole evenly.
  2. Generously grease the inside of the baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract until combined. Add maple syrup, sugar, cinnamon, and salt, mixing until smooth.
  4. Cut the frozen (or fresh) waffles into cubes and gently fold them into the egg mixture along with the blueberries.
  5. Carefully pour the waffle and blueberry mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes until golden-brown and the center is set.
  7. Allow the casserole to cool for about 10 minutes before serving, optionally dusting with powdered sugar.
